Information Technology in the Arts

International conference in the context of the year of Russian cinema

1-2 December 2016

 Information Technology in the Arts

Information Technology (IT) is playing an increasingly major role in our lives, changing them radically if discreetly, making them both simpler and more sophisticated. As the flagship of all that is new and original, the arts inevitably respond to scientific and technical innovation. To what extent do such innovations contribute to the expression of new meanings in today’s art forms ? Should they be applied directly, or do we instead need to take time to reflect upon them? Do contemporary artists really need to draw upon IT or are they merely creating effects, perhaps blurring what is essential to art ?

The international conference «Information Technology in the arts» will take place on December 1-2, 2016, in the context of the 5th Saint-Petersburg International Cultural Forum. It is organised by the Vaganova Ballet Academy and the Saint-Petersburg State University, with the cooperation of University Paris 8. The conference will address issues related to applying IT in contemporary art forms, in dance and in teaching, involving five different departments: dance and film; film and multimedia; IT in music and in contemporary composition; contemporary choreography and performance art; IT and teaching.

The main themes dealt with will be the following: IT in film; contemporary dance and multimedia; surround sound; virtual reality; interactivity; contemporary music; new sound space; computer-based compositions; new composition techniques; electroacoustic music; digital performance; experimental art; IT as applied to teaching creative disciplines; distance teaching; virtual education.
